Push Fit and Plastic Poly PEX Fittings
When it comes to PEX fittings many different variations exist these days. There is the poly or plastic type crimp styled PEX fittings and then there are the push-fit kinds of fittings that have the typical construction reminiscent of SharkBite products.
Plastic or Poly Styled
These plastic versions of PEX fittings are mainly made out of PSU also known as polysulfone as per the very stringent ASTM F2159 standard. These are typically found in black or white colors. These poly fittings resemble the regular brass versions and have an equal number of barbs so it can be confusing. Quite similar to the conventional brass PEX fittings these fittings are also completely compatible with various kinds of PEX tubing. Hence, the advantage of this is that you could choose to install these either with the clamp or the crimp connection techniques.
Push Fit Type
These types of PEX fittings are like the SharkBite styles and in fact are the only kinds of PEX fittings that do not need any rings or PEX tools to establish connections with the tubing. With the special locking mechanism with multiple components, it facilitates easy placement of the PEX tubing for plumbing into the respective fitting.
